Property for sale in Stow-on-the-Wold

The highest town in the Cotswolds, Stow-on-the-Wold is centred on a large picturesque market square surrounded by strikingly tall and elegant buildings and steep-walled alleyways which were originally used to funnel sheep into the fair.

The town is home to many fine antique shops, art galleries, boutique shops and a local butcher. There’s also a thriving food scene; Stow is full of wonderful restaurants, bistros, tea shops and public houses including The Porch House which is said to be the oldest inn in England and dates back to 947 AD.

Stow-on-the-Wold provides good motorway and railway access to London and Oxford, with hourly trains to Oxford in 25-44 minutes and to London every one to two hours in 90-106 minutes from the nearest rail stations at Moreton-in-Marsh or Kingham, just four and five miles away respectively. If driving in clear traffic, you should be able to reach London in 75 minutes via the M4 or M40.

When it comes to the type of properties available, most of the ancient Cotswold stone cottages and houses are generally Grade II listed and reside within designated conservation areas. Period 16th century Cotswold stone properties command higher prices as these are perennially in high demand and come to market less frequently, but equally as popular are contemporary properties and estates which are spacious and offer all the mod cons which older Cotswold properties lack.

“Leigh went above and beyond to capture every penny on a recent sale. He was the glue that held the whole process together when there were challenges but maintained a friendly and constructive attitude and professional approach throughout. Him and his team know the area intimately. I would use him and the team on any future sale in the area.”

“First move for 10 years & KF handled it brilliantly. Both Leigh Glazebrook for our sale & Helen Waddilove for our purchase were excellent & dealt with some potentially difficult issues extremely professionally & sensitively, finding solutions to several issues during the process & maximizing the value in both transactions. Will use again next time.”

“After 20 years in one spot we had forgotten what it was like to sell up and move. Yes, it was emotional, but Leigh and the team made it as smooth as possible with many fun moments on the way. The result was good which is what you seek to achieve. A happy buyer and seller. Yes, we would use again and have even spoken of the potential of the new venture. A great compliment. Thank you to all, especially PJ.”

“I was phenomenally impressed by the level of service I received from this Estate Agents whilst purchasing a local property. I dealt with Helen Waddilove, who is a shining star and sets the benchmark in how the rest of the industry should conduct themselves. Her proactive approach and responsiveness, in a challenging problematic sale, was simply amazing. Without question, I would highly recommend anyone considering buying or selling a property get in touch with Helen immediately.”

December 2020

“Leigh and Helen at Knight Frank in Stow on the Wold have been exceptional. Helen had the job of holding our hands through some tricky hiccups and really helped to smooth the whole process throughout. I really don't think that without her we would have got this far and within a reasonable timescale considering the extra layer of current pandemic difficulties. It has been like having a friend at the end of the phone- at all hours. So grateful and very confident we chose the right agent.”
