This once sleepy Gulf Coast town now offers the best of Florida living. Who’s buying?

The typical buyer has evolved from seasonal second home purchasers to those looking for homestead residences. The Johns Hopkins Hospital and the University of South Florida have stimulated the housing economy and the area offers a refuge from new tax laws affecting homeowners in New England and New York.

What will my money buy me?

Around US$350,000 will buy a modest two to three bedroom home with scope for improvements. A nice waterfront property starts from around US$900,000.
