The government collected £1.995 billion in revenue from Stamp Duty in the first three months of 2017, provisional figures from HMRC show.
While this was down from the £2.379 billion collected in the fourth quarter, it was 16% higher than the amount collected in Q1 2016, buoyed by an additional £454 million in receipts as a result of the 3% surcharge for investors and second home purchasers.
On an annual basis, government revenues from residential stamp duty receipts were £8.56 billion, the highest on record.
