Houses and flats for sale in Ripon
The cathedral city of Ripon can be found 12 miles to the north of Harrogate. The city is most noted for its stunning cathedral and the high-achieving Ripon Grammar School, a selective state school on the fringe of the city centre. The latter is one of the predominant reasons families move to Ripon and the surrounding villages to ensure they are in catchment for a school that has achieved ‘outstanding’ status from Ofsted.
Properties for sale in this area can range from large detached homes with land to quaint cottages in sleepy villages. Some of the most popular villages within a short distance of Ripon are Mickley, Burton Leonard, Bishop Monkton and West Tanfield. These villages are in demand due to their strong community spirit and range of amenities such as good primary schools, pubs and village shops.

Living in Ripon
Ripon is well connected for those who require a little escapism at a weekend; National Trust owned Fountains Abbey and Brimham Rocks are a short drive from the city centre providing not only stunning panoramic views but also copious amounts of walking routes for the Sunday stroller to the reputable rambler. Whilst en route there are award winning pubs to be discovered such as The Yorke Arms at Ramsgill in the heart of Nidderdale (An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) which holds a longstanding Michelin star as one of its many accolades.
For those who prefer to be in the hustle and bustle of small city living there is a weekly market in the town square with up to 120 stalls presenting the best of local produce. Ripon Races also attracts people from far and wide with numerous meets throughout the year which always creates a lively and competitive atmosphere.
There is an extensive range of day to day amenities, good schooling (in particular Ripon Grammar School and Ripon Choir School) with the recently upgraded A1(M) motorway being some 5 miles further to east. The popular spa town of Harrogate is some 25 minutes’ drive to the south with Harrogate and Thirsk having connections to the east coast mainline as alternatives to the principal train connections at York and Leeds that are also within comfortable commuting distance.
