The year 2020 will go down in history as one that rocked global foundations, putting under the spotlight the fragility of human nature and social and economic constructs that we relied heavily on to lead our daily lives.

Covid-19 has tested our endurance and ability to adapt, but what has unmistakably emerged is that our top priority must be our health - as individuals and a collective.

The pandemic has thrown into sharp relief our dependence on healthcare systems in order to protect us and the ones we love - from the very young to the old and those with compromised health.

Our everyday Healthcare Heroes have emerged as just that - heroes who have been caring for those we hold near and dear - our elderly parents and grandparents.

Risking their own lives, working double shifts, not seeing their families for weeks and going beyond their pay cheque, these are all the very real sacrifices that the extraordinary individuals working within the social care and care home sectors make on a daily basis.

The initiative for Healthcare Heroes was met with great enthusiasm by the sector. One Chief Executive, quite understandably, felt obliged to nominate every care home under ownership and every member of staff. Every employee, he felt, made an extraordinary contribution in protecting those under their care, in the face of adversity.

Our Healthcare Hero Awards paint a rich tapestry of the human faces behind care home work, bringing to life stories from the frontline, honouring every one of our Heroes for going ‘above and beyond the call of duty’ in a tremendously difficult environment.

We're exceptionally proud of this important initiative.
