Knight Frank's 2020 guide to the very best of country living and real estate is out now
January 06, 2020

The launch of our latest edition of Country View has coincided perfectly with the launch of the new decade, a simultaneous offering of redefined rules, fresh aspirations and looking to build a strong future.

The UK left the 2010s in the wake of a general election with renewed hopes for action and clarity after the recent years of political and economic uncertainty. While the property market overall has reflected recent struggles, the country market has always managed to maintain its allure.

"The UK property market has recently endured an environment that has made people reticent to commit to any big moves, but the country market has been a resilient one and still proves irresistible to many buyers” says Edward Rook, Head of the National Country Department. "It presents a fantastic opportunity to secure property that can be considered value-for-money in the short term, a sound investment for the future and that can deliver all kinds of lifestyles."

Building a lifestyle, in all its various forms, is a big focus in this year’s edition of Country View. It includes an exclusive interview with Britain’s favourite impressionist, Rory Bremner, and his sculptor and artist wife, Tessa Campbell Fraser, about moving from their cherished country home on the Scottish Borders to the milder Cotswold hills of Oxfordshire. On the subject of creating dream properties, we also spoke to esteemed British interior designer, Nina Campbell, on what makes a country house a home.

Redefining the rules is also a theme that runs through the heart of this edition of Country View. Diversification is big business when it comes to monetising country assets, and we’ve interviewed Simon Robinson of Hattingley Valley winery in Hampshire to learn how team work really does make the dream work. Also offering a fresh perspective is British womenswear brand Troy, who have given country clothing not just a new look, but a new purpose – not to forget Aston Martin’s new V8 DBX SUV, a car that breaks the mould when it comes to luxury SUVs.

In addition to the above, the latest issue of Knight Frank’s Country View showcases some of the UK’s most beautiful, historic and expansive properties that are currently on the market.

Country living presents opportunity as well as a chance to reflect on what we want from the future. As Edward Rook says, “In many ways, the theme of this year’s publication is to look past the here-and-now and to explore creating a lifestyle for the future.”
