November 25, 2019

From theatre shows to cinema showings, riverside restaurants to exciting cocktail bars, South Bank has all the makings of a great place to spend an evening. With some of the best riverside views spanning London’s most iconic landmarks, South Bank’s curved embankment is the perfect spot to watch London take on a life of its own in the evenings. An evening stroll along the Queen’s Walk will allow you to view the Palace of Westminster and Big Ben, London Eye and St Paul’s Cathedral, all lit up against the backdrop of the city.

In addition to all of this, there’s a host of other activities going on that not so many people know about here’s our guide to South Bank’s more unusual nightlife and the seven best things to do there:

Dungeon Lates at the London Dungeon

An adults-only tour of the London Dungeons that you’ll never forget. Be prepared for far more than just things that go bump in the night as you embark on a 75-minute tour filled with live actors, special effects and story-telling that will give you goose bumps. As part of the experience you’ll also receive two alcoholic beverages (you’ll need them!) and access to the Dungeon Tavern, an authentic Victorian Pub Experience.

Sea Life London Lates

Taking place on set dates throughout the year, Sea Life London Lates is a chance to enjoy London’s Sea Life Centre, more commonly known as the London Aquarium, in a strictly adults-only environment. Visitors can enjoy a glass of prosecco on arrival, while getting to see the sharks, rays and jellyfish that reside at the aquarium without the crowds of the day. Doors open at 6.45pm and the event ends at 10.30pm, tickets must be booked in advance.

Night city river cruises

View the city from a different perspective and take to the Thames for a two-hour cruise that shows off the capital’s very best illuminated landmarks. The Thames is integral to London’s past, present and future, and offers a unique 360-degree view of the city. Guests can enjoy a welcome drink on arrival as well as live music and canapes served throughout the cruise.

Knot and Lyaness at Sea Containers

Two bars with distinctly different personalities, both located within the Sea Containers Hotel in the heart of South Bank. 12th Knot is a rooftop bar that offers beautiful, panoramic views over the Thames and city, with a balcony area, striking décor and frequent DJ and live music nights. 12 floors below you will find Lyaness bar, the creation of multi award-winning Ryan Chetiyawardana AKA Mr Lyan. Lyaness is a cocktail bar with a twist, serving up cocktails made from weird and wonderful ingredients that provide delicious results.

Stay Late at the Tate

On Friday and Saturday nights, the Tate Modern is open until 10pm, offering visitors a chance to beat the crowds and experience the sense of calm that encompasses a gallery at night. Why not enjoy a relaxing dinner and then head over to the Tate for a late peruse, guaranteed to inspire and entertain. The Tate is world-renowned for its international modern art, with over 78,000 pieces on display and some of the most cutting-edge, contemporary installations around.

London Eye night ride

It’s time to experience London from a different angle at night. Most people consider going on the London Eye during the day, but experiencing the glittering glory of London at night from 135 metres in the air offers a view only rivalled by aeroplane. Whether you’re a tourist, newbie or seasoned Londoner, everyone should have the opportunity to experience London’s night-time cityscape once. Closing times vary throughout the year and the degree of dusk/darkness will vary depending on the season.
