Knight Frank has launched three new developments in London's vibrant East End with homes available via the Help to Buy scheme. Andrew Groocock, Head of Knight Frank Canary Wharf, tells you everything you need to know.
October 19, 2018

The geography of East London has changed, with the pace and pipeline of development accelerating in the last decade and I'm continuously impressed by the game changing ingenuity many developers are showing in providing housing for both locals and new arrivals.

Head of Knight Frank Canary Wharf, my office regularly markets some of the area's best new homes; it's an exciting time to live in what once was a wider area best, and perhaps only, made familiar by the glittering skyscrapers at Canada Square, representing a cluster of the world's major financial and legal businesses.

Swathes of unused land and defunct docklands have been repurposed, wide scale regeneration giving momentum and purpose to thriving new residential areas in and around the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. One of the most significant urban renaissance projects in the world, development pace has ramped up in the last ten years, cranes dotting the East London skyline as far as the eye can see.

The on-going regeneration of sites at Stratford, the Greewich peninsular and the Isle of Dogs is making these areas very different places than they were 30 years ago, now reclaimed by residents keen to put down roots in world class residential districts.

Add to this the extended Docklands Light Railway (DLR) and soon to be opened Crossrail (2019) and these previously hard to access and down at the heel areas of London's East End are firmly on the up.

We are currently marketing three new developments that are great examples of how inspired thinking can rewrite the profile of an area. In the heart of London's regeneration zones, homes are available via the Help to Buy scheme.

Bow Common Lane  - Bow

Over in Bow is a freshly launched development of just nine new apartments one mile from stations at both Mile End and Limehouse and half a mile from Devon's Road DLR station with direct links to Stratford.

Five of the apartments are still available and include one one-bedroom apartment, two two-bedroom apartments and two three-bedroom apartments.

The development sits in a prime regeneration zone bordered by housing of similar calibre. Each of the apartments feature contemporary interiors throughout, including fully fitted kitchen with integrated appliances by Bosch and engineered wood flooring.

Most apartment have en-suite facilities and all are sold with either balconies or outdoor space at ground floor together with communal amenity and cycle storage areas. There is communal landscaped rear terrace for residents to enjoy.

Apartments are currently being sold leasehold with approximately 998 years remaining.

Douro Apartments – Bow

Launched in October 2018 is Douro Place - a collection of nine private residences including three houses, two duplexes and four apartments, located within Bow's Fairfield Road conservation area close to Victoria Park and Olympic Park.  Two of the apartments are available via Help to Buy and feature Carrara marble worktops and Bosch appliances.

The houses have a footprint of 1,313 sq ft to 1,324 sq ft and are available with three or four bedrooms, each with two or three bathrooms; the duplexes have two bedrooms and two bathrooms and the apartments all have two bedrooms. All of the properties enjoy outside space for al-fresco dining and socialising.

Bow Road underground station (District and Hammersmith & City ) is  a nine minute walk from the development and the DLR station at Bow Church can be reached in six minutes on foot.

There are regular buses on Fairfield Road direct to the upcoming Crossrail service at Stratford, improve Bow's already excellent connectivity.

Douro Place residences are designed for low energy living, longevity and environmental concern. All benefit from high performance glazing and solar panels as well as green roofs designed to increase biodiversity and create a low maintenance organic ecosystem.

Upton Gardens - Newham

Secure your piece of sporting history. Former home of West Ham United FC, Upton Gardens in Newham, E13 is a new development already registering healthy interest.

A cornestone of Newham's regeneration, Upton Gardens once completed will deliver 842 new homes, as well as commercial spaces and a public library. The site will consist of one, two, three and four-bedroom apartments available via Help to Buy.

The design of Upton Gardens takes its cue from the former football ground it is built on, with the layout of the buildings shadowing the layout of the old stadium.

The development has been designed to maximise green areas - all homes will include private outdoor space, as well as access to communal gardens and landscaping including a direct walk way to Priory Park behind the development.

Residents will have access to facilities such as a concierge, gym, car club and underground car parking including storage for over 1,000 bikes.

Located in Zone 3, Upton Gardens is a 6 minute walk from Upton Park underground station which operates on the District and Hammersmith and City lines with direct links to central London.

Prices start at £347,990
