History of South Worcester

The River Severn made Worcester an early centre for trade. The Cathedral rises majestically above the river and has been the seat for bishops since the seventh century.

The Battle of Worcester in September 1651 was the last battle of The English Civil War between Oliver Cromwell and Charles ll and the Scots.

Sir Edward Elgar was born in Lower Broadheath, three miles away. He found inspiration for his music from Malvern Hills and the Worcestershire countryside.
