History of Richmond

The great and the good
Richmond has long been the retreat of royalty, the rich and the famous. The magnificent palace at Hampton Court, built by Henry VIII, still stands prominently on the River Thames at Richmond.

The Thames winds peacefully through the area for more than 20 miles, offering beautiful vistas. Famously, the view from the top of Richmond Hill was captured by artist William Turner.
