North Worcester Area Guide

Why live in North Worcester

In the heart of England, Worcester is a modern city with a rich heritage and an enviable location. It is surrounded by beautiful countryside and charming historic towns and villages, yet perfectly placed for access to the Midlands conurbation and other parts of Britain.

The compact city centre is ideal for strolling, sightseeing and shopping. There is a great mixture of ancient buildings, modern shopping, street cafés and riverside walks guaranteed to reward you with a relaxing and entertaining visit.

To the north of Worcester are the popular villages of Chaddesley Corbett, Belbroughton, Drayton, Himbleton, Crowle, Tibberton, Salwarpe, Hagley and Hanbury. All these highly sought-after villages are easily commutable to Kidderminster, the Black Country and Birmingham. In Chaddesley Corbett is the famous moated Harvington Hall. Hanbury parish is large and dates back to the 12th century. Hanbury Hall is now owned by the National Trust and the annual village fete is usually held in its grounds.

History of North Worcester

The city has a rich history from the time it was a centre for trade up and down the River Severn. Worcester Cathedral is a magnificent sight as it rises majestically above the river: it has been the seat of a bishopric since the seventh Century. The Battle of Worcester in September 1651 was the last battle of the English Civil War.

Sir Edward Elgar was born in Lower Broadheath, just 3 miles outside Worcester. His great works were inspired by the Malvern hills and surrounding countryside.

Places of Interest

The city and county have a wealth of places to visit, from the magnificent Cathedral on the banks of the Severn to Royal Worcester Porcelain’s Museum and Visitor Centre and the remarkable medieval interiors of the City centre’s Greyfriars.

Just beyond the City are the glorious hills and natural springs at Malvern to Elgar’s Birthplace Museum, the magnificent landscapes at Croome Park and the romantic ruin of Witley Court
