Return to Hereford Home

The Welsh border counties of Herefordshire, Monmouthshire, Shropshire, Breconshire and Radnorshire offer an excellent quality of life in some of the most beautiful and “timeless” countryside in the British Isles. Rich undulating farmland, fertile valleys and natural woodlands are bounded by the high moors and hills of the Black Mountains and the Shropshire Hills, making for unrivalled riding and walking country.

The Cathedral city of Hereford (population approximately 56,000) is complimented by the thriving and historic market towns of Monmouth, Ross on Wye, Ledbury, Leominster, Ludlow and Hay on Wye. All of them offer excellent shopping and recreational amenities.

Excellent schooling is available throughout the area including Shrewsbury, Monmouth Haberdashers, Hereford Cathedral, Belmont, Bedstone and Lucton. There are a number of excellent Prep Schools such as The Elms at Colwall, Moor Park at Ludlow, St. Richards at Bredenbury and The Grange in Monmouth.

There are theatres at Hereford, Malvern and Monmouth and internationally known literary festivals at Hay, Ludlow, Presteigne and Ledbury. Hereford hosts the Three choirs festival tri-annually.

There is a strong sporting culture with many good golf courses; Racing at Hereford, Ludlow and Chepstow; and salmon and trout fishing in local rivers including of course the famous Wye and Usk.

Eating out is surprisingly sophisticated with The Bell at Skenfrith having 2AA Rosettes, Michelin starred pubs (The Stagg at Titley) and Michelin starred restaurants in Ludlow; perhaps hardly surprising in an area which has such marvellous local produce – not only its famous beef but hops, organic veg, strawberries and even vineyards.

Come and see this lovely part of the country for yourself. Most of it is well within three hours of London – close enough to be accessible but not close enough to be spoiled or over-run. You may be pleasantly surprised by our house prices!
