Burgau is an old fishermen’s settlement 10 km west of the historic town of Lagos, with narrow cobbled streets. It has remained lots of its character and is considerably more relaxed than many other resorts. Most tourist accommodation is in small-scale low-rise apartments and villas
The Algarve´s major fishing port is Olháo 20kms west of Tavira. It faces the Ria Formosa nature reserve, a vast lagoon area laces with channels sandbanks and islets.
