The world famous Cote d’Azur, or French Riviera, extends for approximately 200km (150 miles) from the St Tropez Peninsula in the West to Menton in the East, right up to the Italian border.
The area around St Tropez itself offers a wonderful blend of sophistication (attracting the world’s most exclusive patrons in the Summer) – which combines engaging bohemian character as a simple and established quiet fishing port during the rest of the year. The villages (Grimaud, Cogolin, La Grade Freinet) close by, benefit from a green and low-built environment where the importance of quality of life and people are rarely eclipsed by other factors.
Moving further along the coast the next notable town is home to the International Film Festival, Cannes, and is a thriving and exciting hub, not without good reason as it sits on the edge of a beautiful bay, home to many beautiful yachts and motor cruisers. Apartments and villas of varying prices and styles are available through the prime areas of La Croisette, Supercannes and La Californie.
Moving slightly west is the Internationally acclaimed Cap d’Antibes, which offers wonderful front line villas onto the sea and the opportunity to be in the very heart of one of South of France’s premier locations.
Behind Cannes, just a few kilometres back in to the hills are some of the most picturesque authentic villages (Valbonne, Mougins, St. Paul, Vence, Tourettes sur Loup) which combine great access to the excitement of the coast (many villas have superb country and sea views) with the quietness and peace of fewer neighbouring properties and a greater emphasis on village rather than city life.
As one travels further east, past Nice, in the direction on Monaco. Cap Ferrat, where there unfolds the highly exclusive areas of Villefrance sur Mer, Eze, Beaulieu-sur-Mer and Cap Ferrat which (according to Knight Frank’s Global Wealth Report 2007) offers the most expensive non-City residential property in the world. This beautiful area offers fabulous villas in a spectacular setting.
Keeping moving in the direction of Monaco, just before arriving at the Principality itself, the small but delightful Cap d’Ail is located where a great location and superb properties make it both exclusive and in strong demand.
Back in France, on the other side of Monaco are the towns of Roquebrune Cap martin (which is a very exclusive and well-located residential area), La Turbie and finally Menton, which has both stately presence and also a fine reputation for beautiful gardens
