Living in Angel
Angel is perhaps the most diverse part of Islington from a property perspective. The area is dominated by a number of new developments close to Upper Street including Angel Southside and Angel on the Green together with smart canal side apartments overlooking the Regent’s Canal on Graham Street.
Away from Upper Street properties are typically Georgian or early Victorian on quiet residential streets either converted in to elegant flats or else remaining as whole houses. Ever popular with families and young professionals and running from Angel Underground station to the south to Highbury & Islington station in the north, Upper Street has it all. Shoppers are well catered for, with well-known high street brands such as Whistles, Hobbs and Superdry to independently owned boutiques such as Diverse and Zee & Co.
Angel also boasts an enviable selection of bars and restaurants including Almeida, Ottolenghi and Corbin and King’s Bellanger, a classic Grand Café/ Brasserie which is due to open on Islington Green in the autumn. For something a little less formal, Angel has a wonderful selection of gastro pubs including the organic Duke of Cambridge, the Island Queen tucked in amongst a terrace of period houses on Noel Road and the Narrow Boat overlooking the canal on St Peter’s Street.
Angel is also home to Camden Passage which, since the 1950’s has ranked alongside Portobello, Kensington Church Street and Spitalfields as one of London’s leading antique locations. The main market days are Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday with a book market on Thursday and Friday.
Angel also has fantastic transport links with the Northern line at Angel providing easy access to the City and the West End via Bank and linking with mainline and Eurostar services at King’s Cross/ St Pancras.
