Living in GL9

GL9 in South Gloucestershire hides some of the most undiscovered charming valley villages and countryside in the area.  It is largely an unspoilt, agricultural community with no major towns or villages, although at the heart of GL9 is the famous Badminton estate which is managed by Knight Frank.

The A46 passes right through GL9 and The "Somerset Monument" (designed by Villiamy) was constructed in 1846, a memorial to Lord Robert Somerset of Badminton, an army general who fought at Waterloo.

Badminton House has been the principal seat of the Dukes of Beaufort since the late 17th century and is home to Badminton Horse Trials, one of the toughest, most exciting  equestrian events in the world. As well as being home to the Duke of Beaufort’s Hunt, one of the most famous packs in the country, the beautiful park, the history, the association with excellence and the involvement of so many people make it an attraction few other areas can match.  The annual Beaufort Hunt Point to Point is held at Didmarton in early March.

Communications are excellent with fast easy access to both the M4 and M5 motorways and train access from either Chippenham or Bristol.  GL9 is an obvious place to live for those who work in Bath or Bristol but desire to live in the countryside.
