Tetbury is the main town in GL8 and lies within the Cotswolds designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and was voted the third most desirable town in the UK to live in by Country Life in 2008. Originally built on the wool trade, it is a stylish little market town, well known for its 17th and 18th Century architecture and offers a wide selection of quality independent shops such as the Highgrove shop, Moloh, Quayles and Overider, cafés, hotels and a plethora of interesting and varied antique shops. The celebrated 17th Century Market Hall hosts a variety of markets and exhibitions, there is a thriving and friendly community spirit within the town. Tetbury draws many of its visitors and shoppers from the villages and countryside in the area.
There are numerous ways for visitors and weekenders to get involved with the community in the area, such as visiting the world famous Badminton Horse Trials, the Festival of British Eventing at Gatcombe Park, Polo at the nearby Beaufort Polo Club, hunting with the Duke of Beaufort’s hounds and family events such as the the Woolsack Races, golf and open air music performances at nearby Westonbirt and the annual Christmas Fair which is held at Westonbirt School.
There are lovely country walks with excellent footpaths and bridleways for horse riding and the famous Westonbirt Arboretum covers 600 acres. There are many historical places to visit nearby such as Highgrove, home of the HRH The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, Chavenage House, Beverston Castle and Calcot Manor offers a luxury spa.
There are a number of very popular and busy villages offering good country and village communities with good pubs, clubs such as Avening, Shipton Moyne and Leighterton and many smaller villages such as Cherington, Beverston, Kingscote, Westonbirt, Long Newnton and Ashley.
Road and rail communcations are excellent with fast access to both the M4 and M5 and trains to London (Paddington) from nearby Kemble or Chippenham.
