Hartley Wintney has a bustling high street town with many places to eat and grab a coffee. The public houses include the Waggon and Horses, The Cricketers and The Phoenix Inn. Located in the main High Street is the Little House Tea Room, The Courtyard Cafe and Costa Coffee as well as two bakeries offering a wide choice of daytime treats. It is particularly well known for a proliferation of good antique shops. At the southern end is the village green and duckpond (with thatched duck house). 

Schools in the area include The Grey House School and Greenfields Junior School.

The local regional centres of Basingstoke and Reading are nearby. Festival Place forms the heart of shopping in Basingstoke with high street stores such as Gap, Apple, Marks and Spencers and Debenhams. Currently under construction is a combined John Lewis and Waitrose store. The Anvil, with its excellent acoustics, is one of the region's leading music venues while Anvil Arts offers an exciting and varied programme of dance, theatre, opera, and comedy.

The Oracle shopping centre in Reading includes high street stores such as House of Fraser and John Lewis is opposite the shopping centre. Those looking to commute also like the convenience of being approximately 10 miles to the mainline station at Basingstoke and approximately 12 miles to the mainline station at Reading.
