_Why now is the perfect time to sell in Europe and North America

Post-lockdown, prime buyers in Europe and the US will find a markedly different landscape to that of 2020. So, what’s been happening, and why is now the time to sell? We delve into the subject using some of our expert insight from the latest Global Buyer Survey.
September 30, 2021

In comparison with last year, this year’s prime European and North American markets have seen lower stock, a lack of willingness to negotiate from vendors, and, thanks to the lifting of previously tight travel restrictions, a real strengthening of overseas demand.

Those looking to sell in rural, alpine and coastal areas – particularly the South of France, Alps, Tuscany, Marbella and Lake Geneva – are perfectly placed to do so in 2021, with competition for property being strongest in these markets.

Segments between €1m and €3m are most active currently, with the top end (€10+) also performing healthily thanks to a surge in determined buyers eager to acquire best-in-class, turnkey homes.

With many continuing to revaluate their lifestyle as the pandemic eases, a number of buyers are now willing to consider homes in multiple locations, providing they can secure a co-primary home that delivers the lifestyle and enjoyment they feel they’ve missed out on.

Additionally, low savings rates and frothy stock markets are working in favour of those wishing to sell. These factors have seen many people adopt a more defensive stance, causing a number of buyers to ‘’rebalance their portfolios with a greater focus on tangible assets such as property’’ says Mark Harvey, Head of International Residential for Europe & North America. ‘’Its appeal as a store of value, an income generator, and as a means of enhancing one’s lifestyle is an appealing prospect.’’
