Sprawling out from the Collserola mountain ranges all the way down to the glittering Mediterranean beachfront, Barcelona is one of Europe's most dynamic coastal cities, a pioneer in urban sustainability, rich in historical and cultural attractions, Michelin-starred restaurants and an exclusive superyacht scene.

Under the patronage of Mayor Ada Colau, city rejuvenation, sustainability and people-first urban planning designed around public spaces have been top of the agenda since she took office in 2015, with real investments funding a new wave of progressive residential developments.

Leading the way in vanguard luxury developments is Antares, the highest residential development in Barcelona developed by Shaftesbury Asset Management Group (SAM Group) and designed by French architect Odile Decq.

Part art installation, part contemporary new homes, the undulating architectural statement piece is playfully crowned by red balconies - the representative colour of the Catalan capital - at the apex of its 26 storeys.

Antares certainly cuts a striking, sinuous silhouette, in a city known more for its low-rise architecture; pinched at the waist, against the azure blue of Barcelona's Diagonal Mar area of waterfront - home to the largest international community in the city - there is a sense of avant-gardist architectural belonging that only a progressive city with deep design heritage such as Barcelona could boldly wear.

On offer are 88 one to four bedroom residences, duplexes and penthouses that will range from 98 square metres to 386 square metres, each with a private terrace with panoramic views out over the city and the Mediterranean Sea.

Internally, the open plan apartments have been developed by Studio Odile Decq, with Decq drawing inspiration from Barcelona-based painters Mirò, Tàpies, and Chillida and their unique colour palettes for the show apartments.

Every internal facet has also been custom designed by the French architect - from the kitchen islands and baths to the lacquered doors and brass door handles.

Doing most of the talking are the cinematic sea views and the graduating sprawl of the city skyline animated by standout architecture and bookended by the rise of Collserola mountain range. Views are amplified via retractable floor-to-ceiling windows leading on to gently curved terraces.

Wellness and biophilia - bringing the outdoors in - features heavily at Antares with residents accessing an indoor pool, jacuzzi, steam, spa and treatment rooms, state-of-the-art yoga pod, infinity rooftop pool with 360° city and sea views, landscaped gardens and cinema.

Philippe Camus, CEO at Shaftesbury Asset Management Group explains the context behind Antares: “We wanted to create a product that did not already exist in Barcelona and that is attractive to foreign investors.

"Antares’ outdoor terrace allow residents to take in the fantastic sea views, and its close proximity to offices, tech centres, shopping area and some of the world’s most celebrated restaurants allows residents to truly enjoy all the neighbourhood has to offer. Odile Decq is known around the world for her bold designs. This is her first residential development and first building in Barcelona, so it is truly special".

At the base of Antares, the 200-seat restaurant 'Grand Café Rouge' led by Michelin-starred chef Romain Fornell will serve dishes inspired by Spanish culture and featuring local Catalan produce.

In keeping with the rest of the development, the restaurant is also designed by Decq.
